Let's familiarize ourselves with "Burnout"
What is burnout ? Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress.
Burnout makes us emotionally drained, and leads to sapped energy and reduced productivity. Eventually, you may feel like you have nothing more to give.
It doesn't only affect your work life. It can also affect your home, social, and even love life.
Does online classes & working from home cause burnout ? Burnout happens to everyone. It's normal to experience the symptoms. However, prolonged periods of burnout may lead to negative effects on your responsibilities—and even on your physical and mental health in the long run.
There are 3 main types of burnout:
Overload burnout occurs when you work harder at an unsustainable pace
Under-challenged burnout occurs when you’re bored and not stimulated
Neglect burnout occurs when you feel helpless in the face of challenge and worn-out
All of which causes us to neglect and eventually leave the job.
But don't worry, we have a way to deal with burnout !
How to deal with BURNOUT ?
Get enough sleep It is the easiest and most important tip. Getting enough sleep reduces stress, and leaves a positive impact on your physical and mental health.
Try a relaxing activity For example; yoga and meditation. It's an excellent way to calm the mind and reduce stress.
Talk with your supervisor It will make you understand your problems more, and potentially find a solution for it.
Find support Consult with people you trust, it makes you feel better. It doesn't have to be for a solution, just venting your problem also works.
Get moving Go on a walk. Exercise, even. Not only does it make your body stronger, it's also a break from your problems and worries.
Live healthy Eat healthy food and drink lots of water. Physical and mental health go hand-in-hand.
Reframe the way you look at work Change your perspective. Find worth in your work. Think back to the reason why we chose this work. You'll find the motivation for it.
Be more optimistic Open up yourself. Good things come to those who hold on.
Take time off Spend time with yourself or your loved-ones.
Take a break from technology A lot of people take a break by using technology, but instead of relaxing us, it destroys our health. Not only does it cause headaches, social media can unknowingly cause us stress. Try social detox. Shut off your phone for a day and do some fun activities. Setting a no screen time schedule can also help.
